Make School Rewrites the Rules of Student Debt With First-of-a-Kind Tuition Funding Model

School of the Future Embraces Friedman’s ISA Concept as Nation’s First Institution to Offer Tuition Financing Exclusively Via Investments in Graduates’ Future Earning Prospects

SAN FRANCISCO (PRWEB) July 14, 2017

Make School, the school of the future combining purpose, autonomy and mastery in technology and products, has secured a $2 million facility by Goal Structured Solutions (GS2) to offer income share agreements (ISAs) to help students attending the school’s Product College pay for their education without the burden of unnecessary debt and high-interest private loans. Make School becomes the first institute of higher education in the nation to exclusively offer tuition financing through a model that allows students who choose not to pay upfront to give a share of their future earning prospects instead.

Make School’s ISA program is powered by Vemo Education, the education technology firm that designs, implements, and services income-based financing programs for higher education. Notably, Make School is also the first venture-backed institution to embrace ISAs for its tuition-funding framework.

Make School, where the equity-based funding model will be offered to all students, is among the first to fully realize the original vision of ISAs. The program will allow students to attend Make School without paying upfront tuition or taking on student loan debt. Upon graduation, learners who participate in the ISA program will pay a percentage of their earnings for a fixed period of time. All students accepted for admissions at Make School will be eligible to fund their entire education through the ISA program. In addition to covering the cost of tuition, students who choose to participate in the program are also eligible for a $1,500 monthly stipend to cover living expenses based on financial need.

“This partnership demonstrates investor confidence in our success pioneering the ISA model for higher education,” said Ashu Desai, founder of Make School. “We’ve spent the past few years validating our innovative educational pedagogy by creating an environment where students are passionate about learning and graduate into jobs at Google, Facebook and top Silicon Valley startups. Investor funding of ISAs enables us to scale our model and build a top caliber institution of higher education without need for government funding or student debt. We hope to inspire other institutions to adopt this approach at a time our country is under tremendous pressure to solve the student debt crisis while also producing highly skilled job candidates to fill the talent gap in technology and science.”

Income share agreements allow institutions to demonstrate their commitment to student success by sharing risk with their students. Unlike student loans, ISAs have no principal balance or interest, and payments adjust based on a student’s income -- reducing the burden if a student makes less income than expected.

This allows the originator of the funds to get back more than its initial investment from successful graduates, while mitigating failure to recoup the investment due to default or unsuccessful job performance. Make School assumes all financial risk, and the program radically incentivizes the alignment of priorities between Make School, its students and the hiring companies while decreasing student dependence on government funding and high-interest private loans.

“Income share agreements align the interests of students and education providers, by ensuring that schools succeed when their graduates do,” said Tonio DeSorrento, co-founder and CEO of Vemo Education. “We’re proud to support Make School’s innovative vision and deep commitment to student success.”

The concept of income share agreements was first advanced by famed American economist and Nobel Prize winner Milton Friedman, yet has never been fully implemented in higher education until now. Renewed interest in equity-based funding models has emerged in recent years around legislation in Oregon for tuition-free college and discussion among prominent think tanks and policymakers.

Ken Ruggiero, chairman and CEO at Goal Structured Solutions, commented, “It is GS2’s vision to revolutionize the way families pay for school. In partnering with Make School the interests of the school, the student and the capital provider are all aligned and focused on successful completion and ultimate job placement of the student.”

The partnership with GS2 and Vemo Education underscores the mission of Make School to offer debt-free computer science education. The school’s Product College has been offering similar funding to some students since it opened its doors three years ago. Funded by Learn Capital, Mitch Kapor, Y Combinator, Alexis Ohanian, Tim Draper, Andreessen Horowitz and other tech industry leaders, Make School helps students learn how to build apps and websites that improve the lives of others with graduates going on to work at top technology companies such as Google, LinkedIn, Pandora, and Snap.

About Make School

Make School is redefining computer science education, emphasizing project-based learning through its Product College and Summer Academy. Based in San Francisco with multiple locations across the U.S. and Asia, Make School is changing the way future founders and developers learn. Students build products they’re passionate about, while networking with other talented students and tech-industry professionals. Alumni have studied computer science at Stanford, MIT, Harvard, UC Berkeley and have gone to work at Apple, Google, Facebook, Tesla and other top global technology firms.

Notes for editors:

  • Make School is not a coding bootcamp, which typically conduct accelerated 12-week programs. Make School conducts its program over a two-year period in which students attend the school for nine months, leave for an internship, and then return for an additional nine months of instruction.
  • The nature of ISAs provides that if students aren’t earning, they don’t have to pay. Students have a choice between paying upfront for their tuition or entering into an ISA agreement in which a portion of their salary in the first few years after they get a job is paid to the school. A minimum annual salary threshold of $60,000 must be met before repayment is required, and if students earn less at any time, repayment is paused. There is also a cap on the amount that has to be repaid.
  • The explosion in student debt has been described as a time bomb threatening to blow up the U.S. economy. The outstanding balance of the nation’s student loans is growing by an estimated $2,726.27 every second according to StartClass. Total student debt has reached a staggering $1.4 trillion, tearing at the fabric of society as borrowers and their families delay home ownership, marriage, and having children among other life-altering decisions. Under the ISA model, Makes School holds the debt instead of students.
  • The concept of equity-based financing in education was first introduced in 1955 by the economist Milton Friedman in “The Role of Government in Education”. Friedman was an advocate for free markets and free societies at a time when many social scientists questioned the value of market-based solutions to social problems.

Envirosight has built its 200th sewer inspection vehicle out of the Evan's City, PA facility.

EVANS CITY, PA (PRWEB) July 14, 2017

Envirosight’s Vehicle Build Center recently celebrated its 200th vehicle build-out, a milestone that arrived five months sooner than originally anticipated. The Evans City, PA facility opened in April 2013 to build sewer inspection vehicle for Envirosight’s customers. Inside, Sprinters, Dodge ProMasters, Ford Transits, box trucks and other chassis are built out to create full-service sewer inspection vehicles.

“The 200th truck milestone is not only a tremendous achievement, but also a testament to the hard work and dedication of Envirosight’s Vehicle Build Center Team, as well as Envirosight’s sales team and sales partner network,” says Nicci Vislay, Truck Build Supervisor. “We are thrilled to be able to share this achievement as we begin to set our sights on achieving the 300-build milestone and revving up our production goals going into the 3rd quarter.” The Vehicle Build Center went from four employees to eight early this year in anticipation of adding Outpost mobile sewer inspection units to production, as well as increased production goals.

“A quality vehicle build makes all the difference in inspection productivity,” says Steve McDonald, Envirosight’s Vehicle Build Technician. “Our whole team works hard and is dedicated to maintaining the high standards Envirosight is known for among municipalities and municipal contractors. Our customers have one of the hardest jobs around, so they deserve to have the tools they need to increase productivity and make their lives easier.”

The Vehicle Build Center started out originally as a 5,550 square foot facility. “As demand grew, so did our need for more space” says Vislay. In January 2015, Envirosight added 1,500 square feet to accommodate two more truck bays. Now, the facility turns out an average of six to eight sewer inspection trucks and two to five Outpost units per month.

The Evans City, PA Vehicle Build Center is just one of Envirosight’s vehicle production facilities. In December 2013, Envirosight licensed sales partner Haaker Equipment to operate a West Coast Vehicle Build Center in La Verne, CA. Having regional vehicle build centers on both coasts minimizes delivery time and costs.

Provia Labs Acquires the Vault Stem Cell Bank’s Dental Stem Cell Client Base and Distribution Agreements

Provia Laboratories, provider of Store-A-Tooth – the leading dental stem cell banking service, announced the acquisition of the Vault’s dental stem cell banking customer storage agreements and distribution agreements with dental office partners.

Littleton, MA (PRWEB) July 15, 2017

Provia Laboratories LLC (“Provia”) completed a transaction with the Vault Biobank (“Vault”) to take over the Vault’s dental stem cell business’ client agreements and distribution agreements. As part of the terms of the transaction, Provia will provide continuous storage services for existing clients, and provide its Store-A-Tooth services to new clients engaged through the Vault’s former dental office distributors.

Adam Houtman, Chief Executive Officer of the Vault explains, “When selecting a firm to entrust our client’s valuable samples, we chose Provia precisely because of their investment into quality, the strength of their team, and specifically the investment they’ve made into their cGMP facility. We feel confident that our client’s samples will be in the best possible hands.”

Provia’s state-of-the-art stem cell laboratory operates under the FDA’s current good manufacturing practice (“cGMP”) guidelines for processing human cell and tissue products.    Provia offers stem cell biobanking services for consumers, biostorage services for commercial customers, as well as a suite of cGMP processing and related services for clinical activities. Provia’s focus is on small batch cell processing, manufacturing, and biobanking services such as those for autologous use (cells from you, for you) whereby a single patient’s sample is manufactured for a single use.

Under the brand Store-A-Tooth™, Provia offers the only cGMP dental stem cell banking solution for consumers.

Processing client samples within a cGMP operation is critical to the future clinical use of those samples. Dental stem cells will ultimately be expanded in culture and potentially differentiated into other cell types prior to being delivered back to the patient for therapy. The FDA requires this manufacture of cells for clinical use to be done in a cGMP facility, which very likely will require source materials to have been processed in a cGMP facility as well.

As Joseph Laning PhD, Chief Technology Officer at Provia states, “Having a client’s dental stem cell sample collected and processed by a non cGMP tissue bank creates significant risk that the sample will not be deemed a compliant cell source material by cell therapy manufacturers in the future.” Laning continues, “from a regulatory compliance, liability, and quality point of view, Provia’s adherence to cGMP guidelines provides peace of mind to our customers that their stored cells can be an integral part of future therapies.”

“We are so pleased to accept the Vault’s client’s into the Provia Biobank and to continue to work with the dental office partners that the Vault has setup to inform patients of this important technology. Provia is committed to making dental stem cell banking available to families all over the world and doing so with the best technology, under the highest quality and regulatory scrutiny. As the market for dental stem cell banking continues to develop, we continue to focus on offering the best service and working with partners to do so,” adds Howard Greenman, Chief Executive Officer, Provia.

As part of the transaction, all Vault’s dental stem cell client’s storage agreements will be transferred to Provia. Provia will honor existing contract terms, and will ultimately take physical custody of all samples. Existing Vault clients and dental distributors with questions are encouraged to contact Provia at 877 631 1318.

The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

About Provia Laboratories, LLC

Provia is a stem cell processing, manufacturing, and bio-storage company with a leading position in dental stem cell storage and related services. Provia’s primary service, Store-A-Tooth™, provides private storage of stem cells from children’s teeth for future use in the child’s personalized regenerative medicine. Provia has a proprietary set of protocols for cell processing, expansion, validation, and cryopreser¬vation. Leak-Proof PTFE Cuvette Stoppers Invented by FireflySci

Cuvette manufacturer FireflySci comes up with another great innovation for the spectroscopy industry. Through tireless efforts from their R&D department FireflySci has released airtight PTFE stoppers that seal better than screw caps.

Staten Island, NY (PRWEB) July 15, 2017

Cuvette manufacturer FireflySci has been making many products for the spectroscopy field for over 5 years. During this time, the people at FFS have learned that their biggest asset was their amazing customer base. Through listening and learning from their customers, engineers at FFS are able to launch new products to meet the changing needs of scientists at a rapid pace.

For decades, scientists from around the globe have been looking for an economical cuvette that can provide an airtight seal. Their needs have been met by trying out different cuvettes with different sealing methods. The sealing methods are PTFE cover, PTFE stopper, glass/quartz caps, and screw caps. Given these options, the clear airtight winner would be a screw cap cuvette. The only downside to these cuvettes is that they are expensive to manufacture.

The latest innovation by FireflySci’s R&D department solves this problem by using a PTFE stopper that seals tighter than a screw cap with a septa seal. The new PTFE stopper was pressure tested against a FFS Type 41UV10 screw cap cuvette and when the screw cap cell began to leak, the PTFE stoppered cell was holding strong. This was a great moment for all present as now FFS can offer an airtight cuvette for less than $120.

Another great benefit for existing FireflySci cuvette users is that they can upgrade to the advanced stoppers for their Type 21 and Type 21FL 10 mm cuvettes. The new stoppers are being sold for a small price tag of $15 each. A pretty amazing deal for scientists who want to get a true hermetic seal.

The researchers at FFS were not able to release the details about how these new stoppers work. The only details that they released was that their chemists were able to modify the PTFE material to make it softer and more flexible. The flexible material molds perfectly to any surface and provides a beautiful airtight seal each and every time.

One major market that the FFS market researchers are targeting with this new stopper is the spectrophotometer calibration field. For small labs who make their own calibration standards, using these new stoppers is the safest and easiest way to seal chemicals without fear of leaking. A user can permanently glue the new stopper in place making a calibration standard that is permanently sealed and safe for lab use.

Researchers who want to test out these new advanced stoppers can visit http://www.fireflysci.com to find out more details.

Infotecs At The Forefront Of Quantum Cryptography

Infotecs has developed technology that enables key management for quantum computing.

New York (PRWEB) July 16, 2017

Infotecs, an internationally known IT security and threat intelligence provider, is developing quantum encryption technology to exchange encryption keys at very high data volumes.

Quantum computing has the potential to revolutionize modern computing by attaining computing speeds previously thought impossible. However, computing that is significantly faster would also make it easy to break many of today’s encryption techniques. One reason for this is that if encryption keys are used too frequently, attackers can find statistical patterns that allow decryption of the data. The solution to that problem is to change keys very frequently—sometimes as much as several times per second.

Infotecs has invested roughly 4.8 million dollars over three years in the development of a post-quantum cryptography (PQK) technology that manages key exchange. Infotecs, in cooperation with international scientific institutions, is working to develop a marketable, efficient, but affordable solution for the construction of a secure quantum data network.

"The IT security sector is facing an extremely difficult challenge because of increasingly high-performance computer systems," comments Aleksandr Tkachev, General Manager of Infotecs Americas. "Our cryptographers have been working intensively since autumn 2016 on the development of a post-quantum cryptography solution to provide our customers with a market-ready encryption technology that meets the changing future requirements for secure, encrypted communication."

About Infotecs

As a leading international IT security provider and an experienced specialist in software-based VPN solutions, Infotecs has been developing peer-to-peer ViPNet technology since 1991 to provide more security, flexibility and efficiency than other security products that are common to the market. The ViPNet Security and Threat Intelligence Platform provides complete security for all enterprise environments in a single cost-effective solution. As the only technology, ViPNet supports real point-to-point security and is therefore considered highly secure. The encryption solution is scalable, flexible, and easy to implement and manage. ViPNet can also be seamlessly integrated into existing network infrastructures, enabling customers to find the right balance between high security, low complexity and low risk. More than 1,000,000 endpoints, company locations and servers have been securely connected to each other using ViPNet - supported by experienced crypto specialists from our IT development and support team, as well as a strong network of partners. WiseWear’s Vigilant Wearable Global Safety Device Powered by Ingenu’s RPMA Technology

WiseWear, a leading IoT provider of connected health and safety devices and services, and Ingenu Inc.™, the company that delivers purpose-built IoT connectivity, today announced the upcoming availability of the Vigilant™ Safety and Security Device, a personal tracking and communication solution for high-risk assets.

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS (PRWEB) July 16, 2017

WiseWear, a leading IoT provider of connected health and safety devices and services, and Ingenu Inc.™, the company that delivers purpose-built IoT connectivity, today announced the upcoming availability of the Vigilant™ Safety and Security Device, a personal tracking and communication solution for high-risk assets. Powered by Ingenu’s RPMA® (Random Phase Multiple Access) network technology, Vigilant provides next-generation 9-1-1 (NG911) communication, immediately alerting emergency services, independent of cellular connectivity.

According to FBI.gov, every 123 seconds a child is kidnapped and every 43 seconds an individual suffers a heart attack. Additionally, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, every second of every day, a senior falls. Acting quickly is critical during these types of emergencies, and the FCC indicates that by reducing the activation and 9-1-1 response time during emergencies by merely one minute, 10,000 lives can be saved every year.

WiseWear developed Vigilant, the globally connected safety and emergency reponse device, for those moments when every second counts. Vigilant is a standalone safety device that is directly connected to the internet and emergency response dispatch centers. The modular design of the Vigilant device provides a wearable form factor which can be attached to a keychain, clip or watch. Vigilant alerts are communicated directly from the device when an individual leaves the predesignated “safe” geo-fenced area, providing GPS coordinates and messaging to a list of selected contacts. Additional settings alert NG911 services for immediate emergency response, and can be augmented with private “security-as-a-service” packages for an additional cost. Ideal for children, college students, executives, seniors, international travelers, or other high-risk individuals, the RPMA-enabled device provides better coverage, longer battery life, message encryption and cost advantages over comparable cellular solutions. The global connectivity of RPMA also ensures that the same device can operate reliably in any part of the globe without the need for additional SKUs.

“WiseWear has a history of delivering reliable health and safety solutions to consumers,” said Jerry Wilmink, founder and CEO of WiseWear. “With RPMA, we can further extend the capabilities of our products, thereby providing greater options to our global customers.”

“RPMA technology is ideally suited for a solution such as Vigilant, as it provides easy connectivity and global coverage,” said Joshua Builta, vice president, product management at Ingenu. “We look forward to working with WiseWear to bring its innovations to market as we continue to expand the footprint of RPMA across the globe.”

VR allows consumers and professionals to create better events

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) July 17, 2017

Event tech giant AllSeated releases the first ever Virtual Reality experience for event planning. The company, which provides free collaborative planning tools to 10 percent of all corporate and social events in the U.S., will now help its 100,000+ users experience their event before it even happens through VR.

VR capability is the latest in AllSeated’s tools that include scaled floorplans of tens of thousands of U.S. event venues, guest lists, seating arrangements, timelines, and the popular 3D designer capabilities. Venues, planners, caterers, vendors and engaged couples can now virtually tour their future event, complete with furniture, in a realistic simulation through AllSeated’s special virtual reality goggles.

“Experiencing the event before it has happened enables a much better planning process and will bring millions of engaged couples peace of mind as well as give much more power to event professionals,” said Sandy Hammer, co-founder and CMO of AllSeated. “Our new VR offering breaks the mold of traditional efficiency tools and helps our users improve the way they plan and deliver world-class events.”

As a corporate planner for many years, Hammer felt firsthand the frustrations of an industry that lacked digitalized tools necessary to inject seamless efficiency into her work.

“Technology of this magnitude will open up business opportunities all over the world and grant instant access to design and creativity,” said Arthur Backal, Director of Catering at the Mandarin Oriental New York and CEO of Backal Hospitality Group.

VR is just one of the areas AllSeated is entering. Augmented Reality will be the next big push for the brand, according to its co-founder and CTO Daniel Anisman.

“By fusing the power of both event professionals and consumers, we have unlocked tremendous opportunities for the industry,” said Yaron Lipshitz, CEO of AllSeated. “AllSeated is committed to pushing the boundaries of what’s expected and bringing new, cutting-edge tools to all event stakeholders.”

About AllSeated

AllSeated is the fastest growing network for the events industry, powered by free, cloud-based event planning tools. It brings together venues, planners, caterers, vendors, wedding couples, and hosts to collaborate on every aspect of event creation. AllSeated tools include seating charts, guest lists, scaled floor plans, 3D table layouts, event timelines and more. Among AllSeated's 100,000+ users are The Mandarin Oriental, Marriott, The Plaza, United Nations, LinkedIn, David’s Bridal, and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Hands-On Teaching and Collaboration Sparks Creativity in Design Thinking and Game Design

Dallas, TX and Bryan, TX (PRWEB) July 17, 2017

The National Art Education Association (NAEA) kicks off its "SummerStudio: Design Thinking for Social Equity" week-long workshop today, assembling a talented group of art and design innovators, educators and students, all dedicated to designing a better world. André Thomas, Triseum CEO and Texas A&M instructor, has been invited to lead a series of sessions that explore the role of game design in creative problem solving and specifically the use of game-based learning in transforming static classroom experiences.

"Design thinking can significantly impact teaching and learning, inspiring creativity in the way that curriculum is developed, presented and retained," said Mr. Thomas, who also serves as director of the LIVE Lab in the Department of Visualization at Texas A&M University. "Specifically, there are so many elements of game design that can spark imagination in the education process. I'm excited for this week of hands-on teaching and collaboration, as well as the opportunity to explore the ways that game-based learning theories and applications can fuel future design initiatives."

“SummerStudio Design Thinking is a visionary national professional learning experience, developed through the collaborative genius of renowned leaders in design thinking and game design," said Jan Norman, Ph.D., Founding Director of NAEA SummerStudio Design Thinking. "Mr. Thomas has contributed his creative brilliance and leadership since its launch in 2015, with the mission of using innovative gaming strategies and design thinking to effectively transform teaching and learning in the 21st century.”

Mr. Thomas, whose passion for game design and game-based learning resonates inside and outside of the classroom, will use Triseum's award winning art history game, ARTé: Mecenas™, as the inspiration for his lectures and group interactions. ARTé: Mecenas transports students to the Renaissance where they commission works of art as a Medici banker. Mr. Thomas' SummerStudio sessions include:

  •     Design Thinking for Social Equity for Your Classroom
  •     Your Design Thinking Challenge for Social Equity with Innovation Experts
  •     Innovative Strategies and Learning Objectives Using Elements of Game Design
  •     Design, Create and Play Learning Challenge Games
  •     Your Challenges and IDEAs Using Principles of Game Design in the Classroom
  •     Innovative Strategies for Teaching and Learning in the Classroom Based on Game Design Concepts

With 20+ years in CGI production, coupled with his collaborations with students and faculty, Mr. Thomas brings unique insight to the concept of design thinking. He helped launch the LIVE Lab in the Department of Visualization at Texas A&M University, a hub for students to research and create academic video games. Additionally, Mr. Thomas teaches game design, game development and interactive graphics techniques at the institution. Previously, he served as Head of Graphics for EA Sports Football (including NCAA, Head Coach, NFL Tour and Madden, the longest running and most successful sports franchise in this history of the games industry); and is also credited with creating graphics for such notable films as Men in Black, Con Air, Independence Day, Valiant, Ant Bully and Tomorrow Never Dies.

"NAEA is proud to work with Triseum through Design Thinking workshops supporting the professional development of members," said Dennis Inhulsen, Chief Learning Officer of NAEA. "Our members recognize the powerful learning that occurs when students work collaboratively to design and play art centered games in the art classroom. Games in the art classroom promote active learning for the 21st Century, just what our students need."

This SummerStudio is hosted by the University of Texas at Dallas, School of Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communications (ATEC), home to visionary artists, scientists, designers, engineers and researchers who collaborate on important cutting-edge trends of the future. Triseum and the LIVE Lab are also contributing partners of the event.

About Triseum

Triseum grew out of the LIVE Lab in the Department of Visualization at Texas A&M University, which is why education will always remain at the heart of this gaming company. Since then, Triseum has partnered with industry leading experts in gaming and instructional design dedicated to building the highest quality educational video games. Creating world class digital experiences that profoundly impact students, Triseum's bold curiosity means pushing the boundaries of what educational games are all about.
