Untrained Artist Uses 80s/90s Movie Nostalgia To Break Online Shops, Now Launches His Own

Red Herring Creative is proud to announce the work of Ludwig Van Bacon, exploding and sending memes viral in a moment of 80s and 90's pop reboots.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 11, 2017

What would happen if Tim Burton and Lisa Frank got together while Batman sat in the corner and watched? Apparently, the work of Ludwig Van Bacon. Ludwig Van Bacon, aka Justin McCafferty, is a 32- "going on 12-year old" from Fayetteville, GA who worked at a copy repair depot just a few years ago. Today, he is cashing in on an entrepreneurial tidal wave – online retail shops, selling his art. Right behind it? The launch of his own online shop, LVBart.com

The best part? McCafferty is not even an artist.

In a time when 80s and 90s movie and TV reboots are literally everything, McCafferty’s art is really beginning to turn heads, and wallets. His belief that humans have a strong kinship to the movies of their youth, may just be the best thing that ever happened to him. Or to you, if you are a fan of Princess Bride, David Bowie’s fangirl favorite "The Labyrinth," "Edward Scissorhands," "BeetleJuice," "The Neverending Story" or Stephen King’s "IT." Which let’s be honest, who isn’t? Not to mention the 90s music and cultural nods like Kurt Cobain.

McCafferty, who today sells art under LVB Art or Ludwig Van Bacon, first drew a Batman – simply out of doodling boredom. “I don’t like drawing pupils and you can use his cape to cover up parts you don’t want to draw,” McCafferty said. That Batman rendering would come to be the first thing that he accidentally sold. But not even close to the last.

“People suddenly wanted to pay me for my drawings. At first I was just on Instagram, and I gave people my Paypal information. I remember the first time I used Etsy, I didn’t know anything about prints. I thought it was a mistake when a Johnny Depp drawing I did was in the ‘sold’ category. It’s actually still shocking to me that people are into my art enough to shell out their hard earned nickels,” he said.

Apparently, the world is seeing something McCafferty does not: the ability to buy a Banksy before it was Banksy, a Burton before it was Burton or even a Warhol before it was Warhol. Over 900 items and seven successful online stores later – which include Amazon, Red Bubble, CowCow, Society6 and more – LVB Art is seeing six figure plus salaries. And he's just getting started. No more copy shop job. These items include clothes, cell phone covers, umbrellas, USB drives, watches, coasters and more.

“Basically if you can put it on your body or in your home, there’s a good chance you can buy it with my art on it.”

McCafferty’s art has become the subject of viral memes (unwatermarked), Spencer’s tees, rock band album art, full fabric lines, personal tattoos and individual commission pieces from all over the globe. In his “Plushie People” series, which is quickly becoming a fan favorite, McCafferty "plushies" people’s pets or family members by taking out the eyes and adding stitch detail. No question, McCafferty has very quickly become an artist to watch.

McCafferty largely credits his five-year old son, Ezra, for his inspiration – both creatively in his art and motivationally in losing over 100 pounds. “[Ezra] is the real inspiration that keeps driving me to do whatever is necessary to have a career that allows me to spend as much time with him as possible.

Change in Louisiana Higher Ed Law Highlights Immediate Need for Pre-Employment Background Screening Policy Review; States CriminalBackgroundRecords.com

Louisiana's governor signed that state's ban-the-box legislation requiring the elimination of the question of criminal history on all applications utilized for admission into institutions of higher education. Adam Almeida, President and CEO of CriminalBackgroundRecords.com offers an opinion: "The action by the governor of Louisiana highlights the ever changing legal landscape covering the use of criminal records in hiring, and should put every hiring manager on notice to review their current pre-employment background screening policies in order to remain fully compliant with existing and potential law."

Waltham, MA (PRWEB) July 11, 2017

The governor of Louisiana signed ban-the-box legislation that eliminated the question of criminal history from all applications of entrance for institutions of higher learning. Adam Almeida, President and CEO of CriminalBackgroundRecords.com states: "This is a significant move insomuch it further reminds all hiring managers about the ever changing legal environment regarding the use of criminal background records and once again points to the immediate and urgent need for all background screening policies to be fully complaint with existing and potential law."

The ban-the-box movement has spread across the country and has focused, primarily, in public/private hiring. With the new law in Louisiana, ban-the-box has entered firmly into the realm of higher education, at a statewide level.

From InsideHigherEd.com (Jun. 19, 17):

The movement to “ban the box” is often touted as a way to help ex-convicts find employment after incarceration. If employers, or states, get rid of the box on a job application where they ask about previous criminal history, that history won’t prevent people who have served their time from reintegrating into society, the argument goes.

Louisiana's governor signed the state's own ban-the-box law earlier on Friday, this time prohibiting state higher-education institutions from inquiring about a potential student’s criminal history during the application process. (1)

Almeida opines: "The move by Louisiana is significant as it demonstrates a willingness to dramatically change law, in this case those governing the question of criminal history on an application as well as the subsequent use of criminal history reports during the hiring process. Every single hiring manager should be on alert to review their current policies in order to ensure full compliance with existing law and plan for changes in law."

Laws governing the question of criminal history on college and university applications on a localized basis is not new. In 2016 the State University of NY voted to pull the question of criminal history from the system's application process.

From InsideHirerEd.com (Sep. 15, 16):

The State University of New York board voted Wednesday to remove from the 64-campus system's application a question asking applicants to declare prior felony convictions.

At the same time, the system will ask some of those admitted, post admission, for that information. Admitted applicants will have to answer the question if they seek campus housing or to participate in certain clinical or field experiences, internships, or study abroad. (2)

Almeida concludes: "Ultimately any significant change such as the one in Louisiana should command hiring managers to review their current hiring policies. A best practice is to work with a well-qualified third-party employment screening agency, one well versed in compliance of local, state, and federal law."

CriminalBackgroundRecords.com is a third-party background screening company that provides critical information to employers and organizations large and small including Universities. With the ability to provide up-to-date criminal background checks from County Courthouses to accessing the most accurate databases, CriminalBackgroundRecords.com has the information hiring managers demand in order to make an informed decision.

Healthify Raises $6.5 Million to Transform How Healthcare Addresses Social Needs

Investment, led by BlueCross BlueShield Venture Partners, will accelerate team growth, enhance new coordination product line, and support national expansion.

New York City, New York (PRWEB) July 11, 2017

Healthify, a leading community referral and social determinants management platform, announced the close of a $6.5 million Series-A round led by BlueCross BlueShield Venture Partners (BCBSVP). Primary Venture Partners (PVP) and Activate Venture Partners (AVP) increased their investment in Healthify after participating in last year’s $2.5 million seed round. To date, Healthify has raised over $9.5 million through investments, grants and awards.

Healthify works with managed care plans and healthcare providers in 30 states, helping more than 15,000 healthcare staff coordinate the care of nearly five million Medicare Advantage and Medicaid beneficiaries. Healthify will use the funds from the financing to expand its care coordination product suite and grow its network of customers and social service partners.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the federal agency that supports the administration of Medicaid and Medicare, has made managing the social determinants of health a priority through 1115 waivers and the Accountable Health Communities Model. Unaddressed social needs, which include access to healthy food and stable housing, are strongly linked to poor health outcomes and high health costs.

Tom Hawes, Managing Director of Sandbox Industries, will join the Board of Healthify representing BCBSVP. “As the industry transitions to value-based care, healthcare organizations must focus on improving the health of their entire patient population, which requires addressing a significant, often-overlooked challenge—the social determinants of health,” said Tom Hawes. “Healthify’s platform helps providers and payors to build out integrated networks of community-based organizations which can improve health. We look forward to partnering with this impressive management team as they facilitate a critical transition in healthcare.”

Healthify’s platform allows care teams to search for community services across a database of more than 200,000 social services, screen patients for social needs, and coordinate electronic referrals with community based organizations. The platform generates social determinant data which can be integrated into case management or electronic health record systems providing enriched patient information to support population health initiatives. Managing social determinants with Healthify gives organizations a clear ROI on managing health spend and reduces the amount of time it takes to connect patients with community services.

“We are excited to have BCBSVP join us on our next phase of growth,” said Manik Bhat, co-founder and CEO of Healthify. “Our goal with the financing is to empower healthcare organizations and their care teams to work directly with community partners to support patients in need of vital resources and supports. We now have the backing to move the industry forward and give the patients we serve a brighter future.”

About Healthify

Powered by a mission to build a world where no one’s health is hindered by their need, Healthify delivers a leading solution to enable healthcare organizations to find community services for their patients, track social needs across their population, and coordinate care with community-based services. thinQ's new origination UI greatly enhances user experience, and the addition of a fifth Toll-Free LCR carrier further reduces inbound toll-free rates while improving performance.

(PRWEB) July 11, 2017

thinQ, a CPaaS pioneer, has released a more powerful and intuitive user interface for their voice origination technology. In addition, thinQ has added a fifth carrier within their revolutionary Toll-Free Least Cost Routing (LCR) platform.

User interface improvements were designed and implemented based on feedback from both customers and analysts, and have been very well received by those in beta testing. These updates include an improved visual interface with fully-customizable color schemes, additional fonts, and enhanced graphical reporting to enable customers to better track usage. It is also fully-responsive, with support for both mobile phones and tablets.

“Our new user interface greatly improves the user experience with better visuals and reporting,” thinQ President Michael Tindall said. “It also allows us to reduce the time-to-market for new functionalities and releases, which will help to streamline future platform updates.”

thinQ rewrote the book on toll free with the introduction of Toll-Free Least Cost Routing. With thinQ’s TFLCR platform, customers can select multiple carriers for Toll-Free calls based on calling area, call quality, etc. and always receive the best pricing. The addition of a fifth Toll-Free Free LCR carrier will serve to not only help to reduce thinQ’s inbound toll-free rates even further, but it will also provide additional redundancy in the event of a carrier outage.

“The addition of a fifth inbound Toll-Free LCR carrier provides more options for our customers, which translates to increased savings and more protection against individual carrier issues. This will serve to enhance our already powerful LCR technology,” said thinQ CEO Aaron Leon.

Whether you are a carrier or a large call center, thinQ clients can expect better call completion, increased operational control, and cost savings. To find out more about thinQ's new origination UI or Toll-Free LCR, contact thinQ sales at (877) 506-0747 or schedule a live demo today.

New Report: Thrill Seekers, Cooking Enthusiasts Most Likely to Watch YouTube Ads in the U.S.

Strike Social used view rate data to identify the top affinity audience in each state

CHICAGO (PRWEB) July 11, 2017

When it comes to YouTube advertising, thrill seekers and cooking enthusiasts are the leading audiences in most U.S. states, according to new data from Strike Social, the world’s largest YouTube ad optimization company and a global leader in social media advertising.

According to Strike Social’s “YouTube Nation” report, which analyzed YouTube ad viewership at the state level, thrill seekers represent the audience group with the highest engagement rate in most U.S. states. Twenty states plus the District of Columbia registered higher view rates for YouTube ads targeted to this category, with Nevada (32.1 percent VR), Minnesota (31.6 percent VR) and Nebraska (also 31.6 percent VR) coming in at the top three.

Cooking enthusiasts were the second most ad-receptive audience on YouTube, equaling about a third of the U.S. Washington (70.8 percent VR), Arkansas (68.3 percent VR) and Connecticut (67.6 percent VR) made up the top three states with the highest view rates in this category.

“Looking at engagement levels among different affinity audiences throughout the U.S. is a good exercise for YouTube advertisers,” said Jason Nesbitt, VP, Media & Agency Operations at Strike Social. “Our findings challenge a lot of preconceived notions and should compel agencies and brands to push the limits on who exactly to target.”

Some of Strike Social’s most noteworthy findings include:

  • New York stands out for nightlife enthusiasts, with a view rate of 30.3 percent.
  • Montana is an outlier for comics and animation fans, with a view rate of 29.9 percent.
  • Utah and Alaska are the top pet-lovers states, with view rates of 31.4 percent and 30.4 percent, respectively.
  • Iowa, Maine, New Hampshire, West Virginia and Vermont — some of the most rural states — have the most highly engaged mobile enthusiasts.
  • Delaware, North Dakota and South Dakota boast a solid base of fashionistas.

To determine each state’s most highly engaged affinity audience, Strike Social examined 31 interest categories across 1,000 YouTube advertising projects in the U.S. over the course of 2016. A view rate shows how many people watched an ad and consists of the number of times a video ad has been viewed, divided by the number of impressions.

It’s Time to Fix Higher Education’s Tower of Babel, Says Georgetown University Report

$

The lack of transparency around college and careers leads to costly, uninformed decisions.

Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) July 11, 2017

A new report from the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce (Georgetown Center), Career Pathways: Five Ways to Connect College and Careers, calls for states to help students, their families, and employers unpack the meaning of postsecondary credentials and assess their value in the labor market.

Back when a high school-educated worker could find a good job with decent wages, the question was simply whether or not to go to college. That is no longer the case in today’s economy which requires at least some college to enter the middle class. The study finds that:

  • The number of postsecondary programs of study more than quintupled between 1985 and 2010 — from 410 to 2,260;
  • The number of colleges and universities more than doubled from 1,850 to 4,720 between 1950 and 2014; and
  • The number of occupations grew from 270 in 1950 to 840 in 2010.

The variety of postsecondary credentials, providers, and online delivery mechanisms has also multiplied rapidly in recent years, underscoring the need for common, measurable outcomes.

College graduates are also showing buyer's remorse. While they are generally happy with their decision to attend college, more than half would choose a different major, go to a different college, or pursue a different postsecondary credential if they had a chance.

The Georgetown study points out that the lack of information drives the higher education market toward mediocrity. The report argues that postsecondary education and training needs to be more closely aligned to careers to better equip learners and workers with the skills they need to succeed in the 21st century economy and close the skills gap.

The stakes couldn’t be higher for students to make the right decisions. Since 1980, tuition and fees at public four-year colleges and universities have grown 19 times faster than family incomes. Students and families want — and need — to know the value they are getting for their investment.

“Increasing transparency around college and career outcomes for students is absolutely critical; better data is also indispensable to drive improvements on our campuses,” said Peter McPherson, president of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities.

Going to college has become one of the biggest investments people make in their lives. College provides large rewards, with graduates earning over $1 million more over a lifetime than high school graduates, but also involves substantial risk, with a $3.4 million difference in lifetime earnings between the highest and lowest paying majors. Thus, integrating education and workforce data will go a long way in removing the guesswork for individuals navigating the college and career maze.

“Higher education has become a $500 billion computer without an operating system,” said Anthony P. Carnevale, director of the Georgetown Center and the report’s lead author. “Learners and workers need a modern guidance system with clear and comprehensive consumer information that will help them make good college and career decisions.”

Such a system will also help employers frustrated by skill shortages to more precisely identify and hire talented workers, colleges to refresh and strengthen their programs to improve student outcomes, and policymakers to better allocate resources to build strong economies.

A number of states have started to leverage integrated education and workforce data by developing publicly available information tools in the following five areas:

  • Education Projections, Business Expansion, and Workforce Quality tools to help state economic and workforce leaders attract new employers and retain existing ones with data demonstrating that the state postsecondary education and training systems can provide workers with the needed skills.
  • Program Alignment with Labor Market Demand tools to help college administrators, deans, and faculty members make program-related decisions that address labor market needs, while college and system administrators can demonstrate return on investment to state leaders.
  • Curriculum Alignment with Workforce Requirements tools to help faculty members create curricula aligned with the applied skills and abilities that learners will need to succeed in their careers.
  • Counseling and Career Pathways tools to help advisors support students in their educational and career decisions as well as identify and reach out to the learners who need additional support.
  • Job Placement and Skills Gap Analysis tools to help workers determine if and how the knowledge, skills, abilities, interests, and work values they possess are transferable to new jobs. These tools also help workers assess skills gaps and provide connections to postsecondary education and training options that can prepare them for a career change.

Reducing the confusion around college and careers is the way to equip more individuals with the skills they need in the 21st-century economy and offer employers the skilled workforce they require.

CellMax Life and Asia Genomics enter broad partnership to serve Southeast Asia with CellMax non-invasive multi-biomarker oncology blood and saliva tests for personalized, precision cancer risk assessment and screening.

Singapore and Sunnyvale, CA (PRWEB) July 11, 2017

Asia Genomics, Southeast Asia’s leading clinical laboratory is partnering with Silicon Valley-based CellMax Life to immediately introduce CellMax Life’s multi-biomarker precision oncology blood and saliva tests across Southeast Asia. The advanced diagnostic testing will reduce cancer mortality through personalized, precision cancer risk assessment and screening in the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore.

AFFORDABLE PRECISION TESTING GIVES INDIVIDUALS ACHIEVE MORE CONTROL

According to the GLOBOCAN database, the ratio of cancer deaths to the number of new cancer cases in Asia was 0.66, twice that of North America (0.33). Only in Africa were cancer patients more likely to die (0.73). This an indication that cancer is not diagnosed until later stages in Asia, when it becomes difficult to treat effectively.

Individuals and their families no longer need to be passive about their health in the face of these risks -- the Asia Genomics and CellMax Life partnership will give everyone more control over their health. Asia Genomics will immediately make available CellMax Life’s affordable personalized and precision cancer risk assessment and screening through various hospitals and clinics throughout Southeast Asia, and, where appropriate, direct to consumer.

Individuals can now achieve the earliest possible cancer detection and treatment by assessing their risk of cancer and doing more frequent screening through the non-invasive blood tests, so that they can undertake timely measures if cancer is diagnosed. In a complementary manner, Oncologists using the non-invasive blood tests will be able to more accurately assess the risk of cancer relapse, and offer personalized treatments to patients.

NEXT GENERATION TECHNIQUES DELIVER AFFORDABLE, PRECISION CANCER TESTING

The CellMax tests uniquely combine proprietary and clinically proven technologies that have been tested in Asia:

1. CellMax-DNA Genetic Cancer Risk Test Assure -- a simple saliva DNA test to identify hereditary cancer risk.

The test provides an affordable and accessible saliva test to identify an individual’s cancer pre-disposition, to help them preempt worst case scenarios. It examines 98 genes across 25 hereditary cancers — currently the broadest gene panel on the market — offering highest quality, fastest turnaround time and affordable price. The largest possible number of individuals and families can for the first time better understand their risk of cancer, and then work with their doctors for a customized screening and lifestyle plan.

Hereditary gene mutations can increase the risk of cancer by 20 times. The test surveys for increased risk of some of the most common cancers in Southeast Asia: lung, liver, colorectal, prostate and stomach, along with bladder, lip, pancreas, breast, ovary and others.

2. CellMax-CRC Protect Test -- a non-invasive Circulating Tumor Cell (CTC) blood test that provides an early warning for Colorectal cancer.

Frequent screening to detect cancer early is the best prevention against the worst outcomes of the disease. This non-invasive test, can be expected to dramatically increase compliance with recommended screening levels, and allow people to tailor the testing frequency to suit their risk. View CellMax-CRC case study.

Additionally, Asia-Genomics’ wide network of providers, leading oncologists, and support teams enable this precision cancer testing and support to be broadly accessible to every individual in South-East Asia.

“A major goal of Asia Genomics is to reduce cancer mortality in Southeast Asia, by offering convenient and affordable testing” said Dr. Wong Mun Yew, Founder & CEO, Asia Genomics. “Accuracy remains critical, and CellMax Life has made tremendous advances in precision analysis of key biomarkers, including CTCs which are pre-cursors to ctDNA.”

“CellMax Life is bringing early, non-invasive DNA and CTC-based cancer detection and management via affordable, accessible, accurate cancer saliva and blood tests,” said Atul Sharan, President and CEO. “Asia Genomics is unique in Asia – it has an unparalleled reputation, and strong relationships in the medical community across multiple countries. Their priority on making next generation cancer diagnostics, that works for Asians, highly accessible makes them an ideal fit with our vision.”

Setting your sights on space is one thing. Launching a successful space-based business is another, which is one reason why Draper’s Sembler office is sponsoring the 100th Mass Innovation Nights (MIN) at the Museum of Science, Boston.

Cambridge, MA (PRWEB) July 11, 2017

There’s never been a better time to want to take your business into space. Private companies are exploring how to fly to Mars, how to create new satellite networks, how to launch orbiting cell towers and how to make the Moon livable. In 2015 alone, the U.S. aerospace industry added $144.1 billion in export sales to the economy, and entrepreneurs are bullish on the prospects of the new space economy.

Setting your sights on space is one thing. Launching a successful space-based business is another, which is one reason why Draper’s Sembler office is sponsoring the 100th Mass Innovation Nights (MIN) at the Museum of Science, Boston.

“We believe in the importance of an integrated innovation community,” said Nathan Wiedenman, Director of the Sembler office at Draper. “Sembler is Draper’s way of fostering the development of technology entrepreneurs by giving them a way to leverage Draper’s extensive resources and 80+ years of expertise in solving the world’s toughest engineering problems.”

Draper occupies a special position within the space ecosystem that gives the company deep expertise in what’s required—and how to deliver—commercial technologies that will perform in space. Draper helped put a man on the moon and continues to provide technology, systems and consulting to all three regions of space—terrestrial, in-space and planetary.

A range of companies plan to participate in the MIN event.

  • Accion Systems, an in-space propulsion company, is developing novel solutions for low earth orbit, geostationary earth orbit and interplanetary missions. “We hope to support the space ecosystem by providing critical capabilities to satellites and spacecraft of all sizes,” said Accion Systems CEO Natalya Bailey.
  • Analytical Space is creating a network of small satellites that will provide a data relay service for remote sensing satellites. ASI COO Dan Nevius said: “Most remote sensing satellites get only a couple of hours of connectivity with the Earth’s surface per day. ASI is creating the infrastructure to allow them to get 24/7 connectivity.”
